Cassette Tapes are Making a Comeback

Vinyl records have surged in popularity among vintage-obsessed Millennials, and now cassette tapes, which killed off vinyl the first time around, are making their own comeback. Cassette sales soared by 74 percent last year, with current artists putting out music on cassettes and cassette versions of classic albums by a range of artists being re-released. The nostalgia factor is one reason people are re-discovering cassettes, another is the appeal of being able to make your own mixtape. Anticon Records manager Shaun Koplow suggested they also force people to slow down, telling the Wall Street Journal, “Cassette tapes demand that you’re patient. You’re not going to be skipping tracks as you would on your phone.”
