Genealogy For Beginners Class

June 14, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

With the popularity of television programs like Who Do You Think You Are? and accessibility to websites like Ancestry.com and 23andme.com, interest in family history is always increasing. This program is geared toward the public at large, and anyone who may want to know where they come from.

The program is structured as a beginners course. There will be an overview of how to conduct genealogical research, including figuring out what you want to know, collecting details, and then the legwork involved. Information will be provided about useful resources for research, and the class will end with a discussion of possible research road blocks and how to tackle them.

While this program will be held in the library’s Community Room researchers are welcome to come access genealogical and historical records in the Pennsylvania Room at the Historical Museum (203 N. Allegheny Street) during regular operating hours (M-W-F from 10-5 and T-Th from 12-5, and the third Saturday of each month from 10-2). In addition, a Genealogy Coaching course will be held in October for those that need some extra help.

Any questions about the program or genealogical research can be answered by calling the Pennsylvania Room at 814-355-1516 x.214.
