King of the Surf Guitar, Dick Dale has passed away

Legendary surf guitar pioneer Dick Dale has died at age 81. Dale, who was best remembered for songs such as “Miserlou” and “Let’s Go Trippin’,” was a grassroots Southern California hero in the late-1950’s drawing record breaking crowds at such early stomping grounds such as Newport Beach’s Rendezvous Ballroom. Dale, who was born Richard Anthony Monsour in Boston in 1937, had battled multiple health issues over the years — including cancer, renal failure, diabetes, among other maladies. He is survived by his wife Lana and his son James, who often drummed for his father
